Hi again,

My name is Mariela Barzallo and I lead Product Design and the Experience area at Deuna, a fast-growing fintech and digital wallet company in Ecuador. I lead a multidisciplinary team of UX, UI, research, copy, multimedia, QA and engineering, all working to make payments feel simple for millions of people. Before that, I spent years creating customer experiences for Fortune 100 & 500 companies in Canada, India, Spain and Chile. I'm based in Ecuador, which means I'm really good at packing.

In my 14+ years of experience I have led product design teams in Education, Tech, Retail, Telco and Finance. I am at my happiest at the start of a new initiative, when all the information seems a bit too complex to handle. I crave to unpack business goals, find the right problem, define the right metric, structure information, explore solutions, and define design practices and systems.

Beyond work, I enjoy illustrating, reading, practicing Ashtanga Yoga, and entertaining my dog Pandora. I binge-watch the occasional series (Fleabag, I am looking at you), and have a tendency to sign up for an online course here and there. To be honest, I might be an online course freak. There, I said it.I keep active in the tech and product community by giving talks about UX and product. I love mentoring other product designers. I occasionally teach UX/UI at Universidad de las Américas. Some students say they like me.
